Gustav Klimt, an 18th century Austrian symbolist painter and well know for his painting 'the kiss', created a lot of his abstract-looking work using bright and often golden tones within patterns and shapes to portray landscapes and portraits. He was heavily influenced by Japanese art and its methods during the Vienna Secession.
