in the darkroom
drawing recognisable shapes was hard as the person moving the lights would have to remember exactly where they started, this meant that instead of drawing shapes we just made repetitive movements mid-air, such as the first two photos. The first image was when they made a figure of eight, the second was a semi circle shape.
the last image involved using the zoom ring to make it seem as though the lights were moving, when in reality they were simply lying on the floor. |
five second exposure
i used the zoom ring to zoom in and out while taking a photo to make it seem as though the light is moving towards and away from the camera.
by zooming out only once in the five seconds, i was able to make the lights seem as though they were a firework or explosion. you can see this effect in the first two photos. |
at home
At home I used neon glow sticks and the black back wall of my brothers' room, I got one of them to swing and throw the glow sticks around while I took a photo. I used the bulb shutter speed on the camera and kept the shutter open for as long as I thought would capture the light enough.
I found that combining all five colors-pink, blue, yellow, orange and green-the light given off was almost white, but when used individually the colors looked normal. I did find that if the shutter was kept open for long enough, the posters on the wall and my brother became slightly visible, for example in the last two photos. |
